FAQ

I already have a birth plan, how will these help me?

That depends on the process you've been through to create your birth plan and whether you've considered everything that could potentially happen outside of your ideal scenario.

Most people will tell you that their births didn't go exactly to plan, and thats ok, but we want you to be prepared for all scenarios. If you haven't thought through contingency plans and how you'd like to navigate unexpected situations, then these cards will definitely benefit you. They help you explore scenarios you may not have considered and prepare you to make informed decisions even when your original plan needs to adapt.

Are the cards suitable for all types of birth?

Absolutely! This is why they were created, to support woman no matter where or how they choose to birth.

It is about getting clear on what matters most to you and teaching your partner to advocate for you.

When should we start using the cards?

The earlier the better, but whenever feels right for you. These cards are not just there to cover birth, we explore pregnancy and postpartum, and have a beautiful pack of affirmation cards to refer to for empowerment throughout your pregnancy and the birth.

What if I end up with a medical emergency?

Medical emergencies during birth are unpredictable, and we are unable to provide cards covering every potential scenario. However, being well-informed and confident in your birth choices can positively impact your likelihood of avoiding certain complications.

For example, having an induction for non medical reasons carry a significantly higher rate of leading to emergency cesarean sections. When you research the risks of elective inductions versus the benefits of waiting for spontaneous labour (in low-risk pregnancies), you're better equipped to make informed decisions that support a natural, physiological birth process.

Knowledge is power – understanding your options helps you advocate for evidence-based care that aligns with your birth goals while maintaining safety as the priority.

If you do end up in a medical emergency, you would have already spoken through these scenarios with your partner after playing the cards that your experience should be a lot calmer than if you weren't prepared for an emergency.

What topics are covered in the cards?

The deck comprehensively covers standard practice interventions that may arise during pregnancy, birth and postpartum, alongside providing extensive tools and information on the birth process and best practices for postpartum preparation. The collection includes 120 informative cards and 15 beautifully illustrated affirmation cards.

While the deck addresses a wide range of scenarios, it focuses on typical pregnancy and birth experiences rather than every possible outcome. High-risk pregnancy factors that lead to specialist care are generally not covered, unless they represent common conditions such as pre-eclampsia.

What if I don't have a birth partner to play the game with?

A birth partner can be anyone who supports you, your romantic partner, a close friend, family member, midwife, or doula. The most important thing is choosing someone you trust and feel comfortable with.

If you're navigating this journey on your own, please know that you're incredibly strong and capable. These cards are designed to work perfectly well as a solo experience too. You can work through them at your own pace, using them for personal reflection and preparation. Consider this a huge virtual hug, you've got this, and you're not alone in spirit even if you're doing this independently.

What makes these cards different?

One thing we really wanted to achieve was bringing birth partners into the journey in a truly beautiful, connected way. During many pregnancies, partners can feel quite disconnected from the experience rather than being an active participant in the learning process.

With these cards, birth partners become engaged participants in the preparation. The deck even includes some cheeky and fun wild cards designed to connect couples on an even deeper level.

The cards are built on the foundation of providing unbiased information that supports and honours all types of births.

What if I have questions about something not covered in the cards?

Please refer to your care provider.

How do these cards help me in my decision making process?

When you're reading through the cards, you'll find that they prompt you to search for answers yourself, helping you discover information that truly aligns with your values and circumstances. Everyone interprets information differently, so the cards are designed to guide you in the right direction whilst empowering you to make choices that feel right for your unique situation.
